Joe Murphy is a senior survey methodologist who leads RTI’s efforts to apply new technologies to the improvement of survey research. His research investigates technological issues and innovations that influence the changing world of surveys, including gathering information from social media to supplement survey data.
Mr. Murphy draws on his academic background in demography and his expertise in survey design and implementation to support a variety of projects related to energy, hospitals and health care, and substance use and mental health. Some highlights include the Residential Energy Consumption Survey and related pilot tests, the World Trade Center Health Registry, and the annual Best Hospitals rankings for U.S. News & World Report.
Mr. Murphy came to RTI in 2002 from the National Opinion Research Center. He has also worked as a research associate at the Urban Institute.
